Closing Franchise not a hot spot.

Circuit City, a 60 year old company is closing shop due to economic struggles and its customers are outraged over the liquidation specials. Informed of at least 10-30% off all regular priced items, customers were surprised to find the franchise was honoring its 10% off discount-nothing more at the moment.

The liquidation sale started on Friday, after Circuit City had announced it would be shutting down after 60 years. Many customers went into the weekend thinking they'd receive their desired items at close to nothing prices, but came out very angry.

"It's not like we can go out there and go to the deepest discounts right off the bat," said Billy Nichols, a senior vice president and director of merchandising at Great American Group.

Although the first weekend didn't produce huge discounts, the following weeks will be picking up, nearing as high as 90% off.

As a dedicated customer to Best Buy, Circuit City, and places with great discounts for media-related items, I'm appalled by the reaction given by these customers. It is selfish to demand huge discounts for items, and to get mad because they aren't given right away.

This is a reason why it went out of business in the first place: because people weren't purchasing their items, so why should they have to cater to greed of the consumer and reduce prices in order to sell their items. This week it's Circuit City, next week maybe Target. Maybe Walmart. It is sad to see people complain so much about a company that has worked so hard for 60 years to provide its service. It's the greedy customers that have caused many workers out of their jobs, and many businesses, banks, and airlines out of business.

Yes, I do like a good discount, but I'd rather have something full priced to see thousands of workers keep their jobs.

  1. wow, I find that to be rather disturbing as well. Sad to say that's just the way peole are, because everybody is hurting for yet want all the better things in life.

With time I feel thinks will get better but until everyone can feel the positive change in their pockets and purses things will stay the same.

  2. I can empathize with the company when customers complain about the percentage off of a product they're purchasing. Customers at my place of employment often want more than half off when they already have 40% off coupons.

At the same time, I'm not too sad that Circuit City is going out of business. They quite literally screwed over a few of my friends' parents by firing them because they had been their too long and they didn't want to keep giving them raises, they would rather higher someone new and start them out at the lowest paying rate possible. Thus, the dedicated employees who know the trade are succeeded by people who have to learn the trade and are half as good at selling the product. Not only that, the people who lost their jobs now have to find a new job to support their families, in the mean time they might lose a few valuable items while their fending for their own way in life.

  3. I got my satellite radio installed at Circuit City, and they gave me a pretty decent customer service installing it. However, when I started having problems with my radio, I took it back to the Regency location, where I bought the radio in the first place only to discover, I had to wait until 2 p.m. to get it in to get fixed(the garage opened at 10 a.m.) so needless to say I wasn't too happy about that. I ended up going to the Avenues to get my problem fixed and they were happy to fix it. If they keep pulling things like this off, people will get wise and stop coming to their stores.

  4. I didn't know Circuit City was liquidating and it is shocking. I agree with you that it is selfish for shoppers to be so greedy that they demand for this bankrupt company to give outrageous discounts. However, from a business perspective, if Circuit City had started off with 40-50% discounts, then they would not have to sell as many items at 90% discounts in a few weeks.

  5. This is really sad to see Circuit City is close to shutting their doors. Personally I am a Best Buy shopper but it makes me think "Will Best Buy shut their doors in the future?” “Will they end up like Circuit City?" But I am not surprised because I had many experiences, often rude ones, with the employees.
Another thing is the people should not get greedy about liquidation sales. They should be happy that there sales. They need to realize that the sales is go from 10% to 25% then to 50% and so on until it gets to 90% or when they sell everything in the store
