Disney XD, a new branch out of Disney television, is set for the target audience of boys 6-14. However, surveys and information show that girls have been tuning in, taking most of the percentage of those who have watched the television network more.
When Disney XD first launched, it's main focus was to provide more boy-oriented television shows. These shows were filled with action-packed, boy humor and drama. But it turns out the girls are just as involved in this network.
Instead of the stereotypical "guy image," most of the shows will feature all types of heroes and characters. The sport image, skateboarder, surfer, etc: these will all be flushed around with other ideas such as the kids who focus on their school work, or have other interests.
I think seeing that the girls are watching this network can only benefit for Disney. Not only is it bringing more viewers, but it is showing that the shows may be more interesting. I think you have to consider how many shows that are more female-oriented, such as Hannah Montana, or Lizzie Mcguire have had their success due to a large part of the male audience.
The network of Disney XD is already stronger than its precedent, Toon Disney, and only positive ratings are coming so far.

What is FSU's issue?
It is known around the sports world that Florida State University has had its ups and downs with its athletes. They have dealt with issues such as cheating scandals, parking tickets, and many felony charges among its players.
Facing a hard time now is the offensive staff for the Seminoles football team, as they have yet again lost a major part of their redefined receiving squad as two players are suspended and possibly kicked off the team. Rod Owens, a senior at FSU, was charged with a DUI Sunday morning, nearly three hours after a spring football scrimmage.
Corey Surrency, a junior college transfer, also was suspended indefinetly due to him playing in a semipro football league before joining the school's team.
Another star of the team, Preston Parker, was released from the team after a third charge since joining the team.
Slowly, the receiving team has been diminished to freshman and inexperienced players. FSU has always dealt with issues involving their team and it seems their players are not learning from the past incidents. FSU has always been in the spotlight for their athletes' legal issues as well as Bobby Bowden's prestiged career.
As an FSU fan, I just hope that the school can finally get over all these issues they have been having off the field and finally fix the ones on the field. The players are setting a bad example for their fans and the guys that strive to be like them. Seeing the constant crime and negative image in the news can affect many players and people that are involved with the sport and the need to be great to society.

Take the Trash Off the Air!
According to Tammy Bruce, former guest host on the Laura Ingraham show, Michelle Obama is "trash" living in the White House.
After a conversation shared between Obama and school children about her childhood, and her ambition to do well in school, Bruce decided to publicly criticize the First Lady in unnecessary fashion.
She mocks Obama's speech to the children about kids teasing her about her "white-girl voice" and being able to strive for an A in the classroom. Bruce acted in shock, and dismay as she provided commentary over Obama's speech.
Bruce, who has been in the trouble in the past for her comments, will most likely face consequences for her words. She had made rude and unnecesary comments about Camille Cosby in 1998, insisting she needed some sort of therapy after Cosby had released a racist remark said by her late son's killer.
The station she had been working with had fired her immediately after releasing an apology to the Cosby family.
I think it's sad to see people so immature and nasty in the media. People like Michelle Obama are trying to make things better for children, as well as adults, by sharing information about her own past. I think it was wrong of Bruce to call her trash and insist she uses her advantages in her marriage to gain power.
I hope she gets a harsher treatment, for she is out of control with her words, clearly. Freedom of speech is one thing, but to continuously bash people, that has got to stop. What kind of message does it send to future radio hosts or news correspondents?

Done and buried?
Anna Nicole Smith had a very publicized death investigation back in 2007. She had been known around the world as a very emotionally distressed woman after the death of her son, Daniel, dying days after her baby girl Dannilyn had been born.
According to toxicology reports released to the media, Anna had been taking many pills, prescribed, as well as over-the-counter drugs. Her case was declared as an overdose.
Now, two years later, new information has been released about how Smith had been given drugs and prescriptions. Smith's psychiatrist, Khristine Eroshevich, had turned herself in, admitting she had prescribed drugs for Smith's depression. She had signed the prescriptions with a false name for Smith, for privacy, not meaning to commit fraud. She had posted bail of $20,000.
Smith's ex-boyfriend, Howard Stern, and former doctor, Sandeep Kapoor, were also charged with felonies for providing Smith with excessive addictive drugs. They face 11 different felony charges.
I commend the investigators for getting this information out to the media. Many people blamed Smith for her own death, although she was under great stress. Her whole life had been in front of the camera, and she was definitely depressed after the death of her son. The doctors, and her lawyer/boyfriend deserve the charges they get, because they only made it worse by providing those drugs.
Hopefully this will give a little redemption for Smith and her life, and maybe she can finally rest in peace. Now people can maybe understand a little better the media's influence on a celebrity's private life.

Obama for a Cause...and its not Barack!
Feeding the homeless, and providing healthy tips is the First Lady, Michelle Obama.
According to the NY Times, Michelle Obama is on a mission to provide the homeless with meals that will be beneficial to their health. She volunteered at Miriam’s Kitchen in Washington, serving steamed broccoli, mushroom risotto, and freshly baked apple-carrot muffins.
“You know, we want to make sure our guests here and across the nation are eating nutritious items,” said Michelle Obama.
In addition to serving the homeless, she also brought in eight cases of fresh fruits to add to their diets.
As it turns out, this event is only a portion of Michelle Obama's plan to get families around the nation to use more fruits and vegetables in their daily food intakes.
I think this is a great piece, as it shows a softer side of the White House. It shows that Michelle cares about the well-being of her family, families around the nation, and the homeless community. She is embarking on a great cause to add more nutrition to those who may not be able to afford meals that do provide better nutrition. I commend Mrs. Obama for not letting the cameras and press mess with her mission, as newspaper headlines and magazine covers can be quite stressful in getting people on your side.
"Collect some fruits and vegetables; bring by some good healthy food,” she said. “We can provide this kind of healthy food for communities across the country, and we can do it by each of us lending a hand.”

Emergency: No Nuggets!!
A woman in Fort Pierce, Florida felt the need to dial 911 after a McDonald's restaurant could not issue her request for chicken nuggets.
According to the police reports, Latreasa Goodman dialed 911 three times after an employee could not provide her with the chicken nuggets she had ordered. They had ran out of nuggets and instead of issuing a refund, the clerk told Goodman she had a store policy that did not allow the refunding of her money. She then offered Goodman other items from the menu of equal value.
"The manager just took my money and won't give me my money back, trying to make me get something off the menu that I don't want," said Goodman.
The news was so surprising and interesting, MSNBC published the story. The woman believed she had been scammed, and was in disbelief when she did not even get a refund.
"This is an emergency. If I would have known they didn't have McNuggets, I wouldn't have given my money, and now she wants to give me a McDouble, but I don't want one. This is an emergency."
I think it is quite funny to see this type of news on a news site. Yes it is news, but at the same time, so much more is going on in the world and people choose to document on the "silly" stuff such as this. Stories such as economic rises, franchises closing, stock markets crashing, those seem to fall second to the fluff pieces. Maybe the funny, interesting stories take a break from the issues.
I believe McDonald's was in the wrong for not providing a refund, and I understand the anger after finding out that not only did they not have their advertised items, but also being unable to provide a refund. Although the woman will recieve a refund and a free meal, she didn't have to call 911. Emergencies are for more important things than a 10-count of chicken nuggets.

Northern Trust Bank: Trust-Worthy?
According to the LA Times, a fraction of the 1.6 billion dollars given as part of the bailout plan to a Chicago-based bank has been wrongfully used.
Northern Trust, who has recently laid off over 450 employees, recieved 1.6 billion dollars as part of President Obama's bailout plan. The money was intended to help the company keep from filing for bankruptcy. Its use was poorly distributed.
This past weekend, Northern Trust funded many extravagent events and accomodations ranging from golf tournaments and fancy hotel bills. The Northern Trust Open was held, and what surrounded the weekend was parties of all sorts and expenses.
More than 100 employees and clients were set up at the Beverly Wilshire in Beverly Hills, another 100 at the Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel. More stayed at the Ritz Carlton in Marina del Rey, and others camped out at Casa del Mar in Santa Monica.
The House of Blues was reportedly shut down for almost $50,000 for one night to host a party. Sheryl Crowe and Chicago performed during the weekend, Chicago earning $100,000 and Crowe keeping her earnings confidential. Acording to TMZ.com, the PGA Open held cost nearly $6.3 million dollars.
I was shocked to hear about this. I'm glad the media has the access and privelege to announce this huge issue. Not only is our country going through a recession and millions are losing jobs, but people are spending money supposed to help out the country for stuff as ridiculous as mentioned.
I commend the government for finally noticing this chain of events and hope more action and punishment is given to not only Northern Trust, but all places that manipulate everyone. It is unfair to see people being laid off, and the money that the company recieved could possibly be given to those who have lost their job. But instead, corporations think they can get away with these things. I'm grateful the media posted this, for many more people can see and be aware of these issues and know that it's not right.
